Breast Cancer Action Kingston is a survivor led, charitable organization, working to educate and support women and men living with Breast Cancer, their families and the community.
Breast Cancer Action Kingston is committed to:
- battling against the rising incidence of Breast Cancer.
- research and advocacy directed towards prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
- educating women/men, the public and physicians about the importance of breast self-examination and the benefit of early detection.
- raising awareness of the scope of this disease by wearing our Breast Cancer Symbol, a teardrop shaped pink and black ribbon.
- support for patients, survivors and their families as they cope emotionally and physically with Breast Cancer.
- triumph over this disease.
Breast Cancer Facts
Did you know that ...
- An estimated 22,200 Canadian women will develop breast cancer in 2006 and 5,300 will die from it.
- Breast cancer accounts for 29.7% of all cancer occurring in females in Canada, the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Canadian women.
- During their lifetime, one in nine Canadian women will develop breast cancer, and one in twenty-seven will die from this disease.
- Breast cancer occurs in men but is very rare. An estimated 160 Canadian men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, and 45 will die from it.
